Located half way between San Franciso and Los Angeles, the city of San Luis Obispo is the cultural hub of San Luis Obispo County. The city was founded around Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, built in 1772 by father Junipero Serra and perhaps one of the best preserved examples of Spanish architecture located in the area today. SLO, the name give to the city by the locals, embodies a "laid back" lifestyle and a lifestyle of community as demonstrated by the numerous social events, such as the Thursday night farmer's market and the monthly "bike night". There's also abundant opportunity for a population of just over 45,000 residents, not including the local university, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. There's a wide range of companies doing business in the area from technology firms to banking and investment to hospitality to downtown boutiques and specialty stores. In fact one of the main attractions is Downtown SLO with it's shopping district, theatres, local restaurants and art galleries. Homes in the area range from quaint condominiums, to townhouses and single family neighborhoods, to old Victorian style homes, to country club living, to vineyard and ranch acreage homes, to ocean view estates. In addition, San Luis Obispo and the surrounding communities have some of the most highly acclaimed public and private schools in the state. Overall, the city and county of San Luis Obispo is a great place to live, play and prosper.
